What is Mextizo

MEXTIZO Nomad Cuisine is an itinerant Mexican dining experience. It's a takeover, not a restaurant. Once an edition, we walk into someone else's kitchen and turn it into ours for one night

Traditional technique.
Authentic ingredients.
Every dinner is chef-led, built on time-honoured technique and 100% authentic Mexican ingredients. The menu is designed for that one occasion only, an unforgettable evening that will never happen the same way twice
Chef Kristina Dominguez
Kristina is a Mexican chef, raised on the roots and flavours of her home country and shaped by kitchens across four regions of Mexico.
In South Africa, she trained under Chef Nick Scott, the self-taught chef behind Glory, an Afro-Asian fusion eatery and culinary collective in Johannesburg that grew from an underground pop-up in Melville into a permanent, intimate residency in Parktown North.
Chef King Mabuza collaborates by her side. MEXTIZO isn't a fixed menu. It's her personal history, retold through a different restaurant every time.

“Cooking is how I honor the women who revealed the heart behind every recipe. Each dish is shaped by memory, heritage, and the landscapes that made me.”
Chef Kristina Dominguez,
Founder & Creative Director
The influence
The Tropical Pacific
Where it begins. Born on Mexico's tropical Pacific coast, this is the humid heat and salt air that first lit the passion for cooking: bright, coastal, unafraid of heat.
Traditional cooking techniques from the places that shaped our journey, carried across Mexico and reshaped in every kitchen we take over.
Every Mextizo menu blends the coasts, highlands and heritage of the regions we've lived in into one table.
The Land of Tequila
Fire and tradition. The agave fields and highlands of western Mexico, where I learned the slow-cooked classics and the confident, generous cooking of the region.
Costa Chica & Afro-México
Ancestral wisdom. The Afro-Mexican coast, where old spices, drum rhythms, and Black Mexican heritage run through every dish. This is where I learned that technique becomes memory.
100% Mexican ingredients
in South Africa
Every chile, spice, and staple on a Mextizo table is genuinely Mexican, imported from Mexico and sourced in partnership with Azteca Mexican Food Products.
